One in 18 of all Canadian hospital patients will experience a harm from preventable errors

Chris Power, CEO of the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI), who co-authored the 2016 report Measuring Patient Harm in Canadian Hospitals, says that one in 18 of all Canadian hospital patients will experience a harm from preventable errors.

A more recent report found that 138,000 hospitalizations in Canada experienced at least one occurrence of harm in 2014 to 2015.

“People do die from preventable adverse events in Ontario hospitals,” Power said.
